Australia's Financial Markets React to Israel-Hamas Conflict: Oil and Gold Stocks Surge

 October 9, 2023

The recent eruption of hostilities between Israel and Hamas is causing significant ripples in global financial markets, with notable repercussions in the Australian stock market. Although Israel and Palestine are not major exporters of commodities, the proximity of the conflict to crucial oil-producing nations and its potential escalation are creating substantial economic reverberations in Australia, with similar concerns echoing in regions like India.

Resilience in the Australian Stock Market

In response to the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Australian stock market initially opened on a lower note. However, the situation swiftly evolved as a robust surge took hold in energy and gold stocks. This surge was primarily fueled by the spike in oil prices witnessed across Asia following the violent events in Israel over the weekend.

Impact on Gold and Energy Stocks

Gold and energy stocks, both prominent sectors in the Australian market, experienced significant gains. The upswing in oil prices, driven by apprehensions over potential disruptions in Middle East oil production, gave a boost to energy stocks. Concurrently, the rising uncertainty surrounding the conflict compelled investors to seek refuge in safe-haven assets like gold, leading to substantial increases in gold stocks.

Global Dynamics in Play

While the Australian market exhibited a robust reaction to these developments, it is crucial to contextualize them within the broader global landscape. The Indian stock market also faced an initial dip due to concerns linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The proximity of the conflict to vital oil-producing nations in the Middle East has heightened worries about global oil supply and its potential repercussions across various markets, including India.

Geopolitical Tensions and Oil Markets

The Israel-Hamas conflict has introduced an additional layer of uncertainty into an already volatile oil market.

Involvement of Iran: Hamas has claimed direct support from Iran for their attacks, although Iran has denied these allegations. Nevertheless, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed support for the attack. If the conflict escalates further and involves Iran, it could endanger up to 3% of global oil supply, impacting oil prices worldwide.

Strait of Hormuz Concerns: The Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil trading route, could face disruptions if the conflict spreads to nearby oil-producing nations. This would have substantial repercussions on the economies of Gulf region countries, affecting not only their oil and gas production but also the global energy markets.

In Conclusion: A Closer Examination of Australia

While the direct impact of the Israel-Hamas conflict on global markets is limited due to the countries' minimal exports, its effects on neighboring oil-producing nations are resonating globally. In Australia, the stock market's resilience and the surge in energy and gold stocks underscore the market's sensitivity to geopolitical developments in the Middle East. As the situation continues to evolve, Australian investors and market participants remain vigilant about the potential economic consequences of a prolonged or escalating conflict.

To sum up, the Australian market's response to the Israel-Hamas conflict underscores its interconnectedness with global events, especially those affecting crucial commodities such as oil and gold. While Australia exhibits resilience, it remains watchful as it navigates the uncertainties within the global economic landscape.

Walls & Boundaries: Vastu

By Charanpreet Pathak - Social Activist & Vastu Consultant

* North east direction should be low, open and light and south west direction should be heavy, closed and high. This calculation should determine the height, thickness and design (railing, etc.) of the boundary wall keeping in mind the basic rules of architecture while constructing boundary wall of any building.

* First of all, check through the main gate of the house, the height of the main gate and boundary wall in the north direction is higher than usual, if you think that the main gate or boundary wall is not higher than get this done immediately.

* If the thickness of the boundary of north and east direction is more than 9-10 inches, then by reducing the thickness of the wall, we will not only reduce the architectural defects but also give space inside the house.

* Boundary wall of north and east direction should not be closed at all because it is more auspicious to design a lattice and top railing in the middle of it so that maximum auspicious energy can come inside the building.

 * The wall in the south and west direction of the building should be equal or somewhat higher than the north and east side wall, but do not be low, take care of this because due to this Vastu defects, the homeowner may face many types of problems.

* If the wall in the south and west direction if it is more in thickness then it is auspicious, but it should be thinner than the wall in the north and east direction.

 * If the wall and main gate of the south and west direction is high and heavy in the building, it is more   auspicious. And if there is any lattice design or open in the boundary wall of this direction, then it should be closed immediately by applying fever ink.

 * Heavy designs such as the use of stone on the wall, rough pillars or ejected planters should not be made in the boundary of north and east direction.

* Some people keep the pot above the wall and make it heavy and high, then it can be done only on the south or west direction of Babu Kiraval, if you put the pot on the wall in the north or east direction, then it may cause architectural defects.  So, remove them immediately.

Questions candidates may ask about COVID-19 from the interviewer?

The landscape of the workplace has changed across the globe because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only the workplaces are taking measures to ward off infections, but even the employees in almost all industries now think of health and safety concerns before making up mind to rejoin their offices or when looking for a new job. Many companies have allowed the majority of their employees to work from home, while others haven’t.

The interviewers now while the hiring process will face new questions related to the pandemic from the candidates. The questions regarding the COVID-19 should be considered as safety concerns and interviewers should be well-prepared to answer them. Here are a few questions your hiring team should prepare for during interviews about COVID-19:

How does the company plan to keep employees safe?

This may be the most common question and the candidate wants to get an assurance on the safety measures. You must explain your company’s safety policies and procedures. Assure the candidate that he/she will be working in a healthy environment.

Will it be compulsory for employees and visitors to wear masks in the workplace?

If the candidates ask this question, then they are not only concerned about their safety, but also how well this protocol is implemented.

Are social distancing plans in place?

Explain the plans of social distancing and how it is implemented within the organization - between the colleagues and also with external visitors and customers.

Will employees be notified if a co-worker tests positive for COVID-19?

The biggest concern is what if I come in contact with a co-worker tests positive for COVID-19. And, everyone understands what precautionary measures to take in such an event. If your organization is transparent on this issue and inform the number of positive COVID-19 test results, then not only it will add the trustworthiness but also reassure the applicant.

Will I be allowed to work from home in case of any contingency?

You should be ready with a contingency plan and also the policies related to the remote working. The candidates who ask this are probably concerned about the company’s reaction if they were to contract the virus.

We suggest that even if there are no such questions, then also the interviewer should share the COVID-19 safety measures in place with the candidates probably at the end of the interview session.

Goodbye Rishi Kapoor: It is because of your roles I could understand what love is!

By Vishesh Srivastava

Rishi Kapoor is no more. I met him in the year 2016 for the first (and last) time at Indira Gandhi International Airport. And he looked so young, fit and handsome. I grew up watching his movies (most of them on TV) I was in Dehradun then and transiting to 'teenage' from childhood.

Onscreen, too, Rishi Kapoor was a gentleman and his act of romance would have a stamp of his nature. May be, scriptwriters wrote love stories keeping his 'gentleman personality' in mind and his roles had a great impact on me. I still remember one of his hit films 'Hum Kisise Kum Nahi' wherein a song he is applauding his competitor and this looked so genuine and sincere.

I could continue to list his movies and performances, but would surely share that scene from the movie 'Kabhi Kabhi' where he called up his father (Shashi Kapoor played the role of his father in this film) to excitingly announce that he is in love. As a young man, I was impressed once again with his role in the film 'Chandni'. Though this film was a mature love story, yet he essayed his role so effortlessly. Now, when I remember him and his umpteen roles in numerous films, all I can say is that he always instilled hope for a sincere & honest love in me or for that matter in millions of teenagers and young people of my generation.

Love can have innocence, youthfulness, and commitment at the same time. I respect women and one of the reasons for this could be your roles in the movies I grew up watching Mr. Rishi Kapoor. Goodbye and Rest in Peace.

How Autocad Freelancers Earn Good Money

https://gohyp.com/freelancer/jahangheer/

Adding AutoCAD to your skills set opens up great opportunities for those looking for a future in design. But, the question often plagues them whether it is profitable to freelance in this field or not. Here are a few cases on goHyP that show how freelancers have made good money by putting their knowledge to good use in outsourced projects.

Jahangeer is a Technical Entrepreneur running a small engineering service company. Under him about 10 Engineers and draftsman work who has expertise in designing and drafting engineering components and equipments like conveyor system, cement plant engineering, power plant engineering, batching plants etc. He found it difficult to run the company and paying salaries to 10 engineers. But this changed after bidding to one of the projects which involved 5 engineers over a period of one month. Jahangeer cleverly utilised all the engineers who had expertise in AutoCAD drawing and deployed them to a well know medium sized company for detailing of engineering components based on their assembly drawings. goHyP gave him a platform where he could use his knowledge of AutoCAD to improve revenues and skills of engineers like file management and layer management while working on the projects. Jahangeer makes sure he takes up projects that require a minimum amount of time since he has to juggle between many projects.

Prasad GLV is a seasoned AutoCAD freelancer with over a decade of experience under his belt. He is proficient in creating 2D engineering drawings, 2D/3D assembly drawings. Working in the comfort of his home, Prasad GLV easily makes ₹2500 per day on the projects he works on.  While it hadn’t been easy for Prasad GLV to start his journey, one successful project outsourced by the country’s top design company, helped him pave his path to be a successful freelancer. goHyP has given him the opportunity to really hone in on his capabilities without having to answer anyone.

Sambeet Kumar Mishra is a part-time freelancer with a proper day job for the past 8 years. He works as a mechanical designer in a prestigious company but wishes to increase his expertise. His work in the organisation uses Piping Design mainly, but Sambeet wanted to work using AutoCAD too. Thus, he took up freelancing at goHyP, in between work projects.  Doing things he enjoys the most like managing CAD, CAM & CAE design activities on AutoCAD gives Sambeet the freedom to do these projects as per his convenience. Along with his salary, he is easily drawing ₹1000 per day on these part-time projects.

So, as we can see, irrespective of your experience, there is always the opportunity of AutoCAD freelancers to make good money.
