Most Visited Places of Udaipur

Udaipur, a popular tourist destination, is  its history, culture, and scenic locations. Popular as 'City of Lakes', Udaipur is also known for its Rajput-era palaces. Founded by Udai Singh II in 1559, it’s set around a series of artificial lakes. City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola, is a monumental complex of 11 palaces famed for its intricate peacock mosaics. Here are some of the most visited places of Udaipur:

1. Fateh Sagar Lake: A popular hangouts of all Udaipurites, the outsiders too fall in love with this place instantly. From quite mornings to colorful sunsets, from long drive to walk on the paal, this place has a distinct quality that leaves everyone mesmerized.

2. Pichola Lake/Ghats: If Fateh Sagar is a busy visual of the city, then the Pichola Lake and the Ghats are the calm affairs that transcend tourists with its scenic beauty, palaces and havelis. To experience the glistening Lake Palace and Jag Mandir in the lake and the shimmering City Palace on the banks, a boat ride or walking along the shore is highly recommended.

3. City Palace: A palace complex in Udaipur, was built over a period of nearly 400 years being contributed by several kings of the dynasty. The exquisite wall paintings, mosaics, decorative items, vintage furniture, Gokharas and antiques within and outside of the palace tell a story of the bygone era of Udaipur.

4. Saheliyon ki Bari: As per the story, 48 young women attendants, as part of dowry accompanied the princess to Udaipur. The Saheliyon ki Bari was laid for these women. The lotus pools, marble pavilions, lush green gardens and elephant shaped fountains make this place worth watching. It is said that fountains were made by the King himself to form an illusion of rain dancing in cadence with the dancing maids.

5. Nehru Park: Nehru Park is actually an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake and one of the most popular tourist attractions with impressive fountains and gardens. The boat ride to the garden on the blue waters with the backdrop of Aravali range gives a sobriquet of ‘Second Kashmir’ to Udaipur.

There are so many other tourist destinations in Udaipur and have not been mentioned here but are no way less in importance than those listed here. If you plan to visit Udaipur, we recommend you to stay in Hotel Le Roi which is just opposite City Railway station and offers luxurious stay at a budget price!
